About the Fishel Fellowship

I-B-IThrough the Los Angeles Jewish Federation Fishel Fellowship, I will be traveling to and working in India, Bulgaria, and Israel, then applying what I’ve learned upon my return to Los Angeles, as I begin to work for the Jewish Federation there. This work will include sectarian, non-sectarian, humanitarian, and professional projects. Learn more about me and the fellowship as a whole here.

In India, I worked with the Gabriel Project Mumbai, a local organization dedicated to fighting poverty in the slums of Mumbai. My primary activity  was creating and conducting lesson plans for classrooms in the Kalwa slum, encouraging informal education through interactive games and activities for children ages 5-14.

In Bulgaria, I lived and worked in Sofia with Junction through the JDC Entwine Global Jewish Service Corps. Junction is a fabulous initiative dedicated to developing and strengthening the international Jewish community through professional development, cultural celebration, and Jewish learning events and conferences throughout Europe. I focused on outreach to communities throughout Europe, as well as the initiative’s media presence and programming as a whole.

In Israel, I am delving deeper into the Federation’s partnerships and work on the ground, as well as contributing to a few research projects. I will then be volunteering for in Israeli nonprofit called Unistream, which is dedicated to empowering high schoolers from underprivileged communities to build their own start-ups.

My work back at Los Angeles Jewish Federation is still in the works, but updates are coming soon!

The postings on this site are my own and do not necessarily represent the positions, strategies or opinions of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee or the Los Angeles Jewish Federation.
